*update* The new lag bolts aren’t long enough, the old ones the threads may have been damaged trying to remove the old bolt *no comment* and I rolled over on my phone that fell out of my pocket and cracked my screen. So tomorrow Im going to home depot to get new lag bolts and who knows about my phone- it works and is “girl drinking starbucks iPhone’s shattered”

Replace them while the rear is jacked up or on ramps?

Jack up only one side at a time if you like a challenge

Those are some weird looking end links. Where do they connect to the bar? These are what mine look like (front & rear):

Jacked up. Make sure it is securely chocked and standed. Make sure they droop fully then undo them, replace and lower onto ramps. Tighten on ramps, depending on the design you don’t want it to bind while you are fully drooped preventing you from dropping back down to ride height or worse bending something on the way down. Lower it so the suspension is loaded then tighten. Do not over tighten 15-25lb depending on fastener size, but check after a quick drive then after 100 miles.

If those are the ones in question, make sure to use blue lock tite or something to keep them from rattling off. A lock washer would be nice if it fits, a nylock nut would be better if the threads allow.

I feel like I just put mine on jack stands when I did mine. It was not too bad and Cavalier end links were like 20 pieces of washers and spacers lol.

Horizontal holes instead of vertical. I’ve got vertical (like yours) on the front and horizontal on the rear (aftermarket). Kinda wish they were both vertical so I’d have an easy way to add quick disconnects...

Lag bolts are for wood.

As for installing, do so in whatever way is safest and easiest, so long as it’s level, i.e. both wheels at the same amount of droop. If it’s uneven the arb will resist going in nicely, cause that’s what it does. Don’t know how much room you have to get under there, but I did my Jeep’s just parked on level ground.

What type of bolt would you call it? It’s only threaded at one end and the rest is smooth.

*edit* hex bolt

I think the smooth part is called the shoulder. Usually only the end of the bolt gets threaded, generally for cost reasons but it also means the shaft can be the exact diametre of the hole. Sometimes I’ve seen them referred to as shoulder bolts if they’ve got an unusual amount of smooth shaft or a large diameter shoulder than thread, but if it’s just a regular old hex bolt, I’d just call it a bolt.

Lag bolts are basically massive wood screws. Very coarse thread with a pointy tip and a hex head.

I’m thinking about bolts. What are you thinking about?
